Godagama, Hikkaduwa was completely devastated by the Tsunami. Under the direction of Venerable Professor Bellanwila Wimalaratana Nayake Thero, Vihadhikari of Bellanwila Rajamaha Vihariya, forty (40) houses were completely rebuild and several more were repaired. (Sri Viwekaramaya) cared for the villagers with food,
accommodation, clothing and other critical services. Many of the villagers
stayed under the protection of the temple and its high ground for several days.
To recognize these extraordinary humanitarian services, Venerable Professor

Buddhist Sangha Council and devotees of Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan and England, has rebuilt the Sanghawasa (residential
quarters) for the bhikkhus of Godagama at a cost of approximately Rs.

Bodhiraja Daham Pasela Golden Jubilee
The Bodhiraja Daham Pasela
( Sunday School) celebrated its Golden Jubilee (50th anniversary)
in June of 2007. Exhibitions, competitions and other special events were
conducted to mark the occasion.
At the same time that young people are focusing on material wealth, they may be
losing their spiritual values. What better way to instill the principles of the
Dhamma in our children than through an educational program such as that offered
by the Bodhiraja Daham Pasela at Bellanwila Rajamaha Vihariya for the last 50
years. For a recent news article about the Jubilee celebration and the history
of the Sunday school, click here. (top)

50th Anniversary of the Ordination of
Venerable Professor Bellanwila Wimalaratana Nayake Thera
A person is fortunate in this
troubled world to live a
life of 50 years. He would be even more fortunate to live 50 years after his
ordination as a
Buddhist monk. The true significance of a bhikkhu's life is
gauged by the value of the service he provides to society and to the
Buddhasasana, not by its length. After all, even a crow can live a long life.
The Lord Buddha himself proclaimed the merit of a monk who lives a life of
devotion.
