Another very important item is the programme of the activities conducted by the Bellanwila Rajamaha Vihara is the Annual Perehara Procession which is preceded by a week-long Parittana Chanting ceremony held in the month of the August every year.

Parittana chanting performed meticulously observing all rites and rituals connected with it, is for the purpose of invoking the blessings of the Triple Gem, and protection of gods on the people and the country.

The procession is one of the most colorful pageants in Sri Lanka. It is conducted with the participation of a large number of elephants, dancers and drummers and also with the display of numerous other cultural items.
